I am currently trying to finish up the 13th piece from my Year of the Guitar series. Here is what I’ve got so far:

I’m still trying to figure out the strum pattern. What I have written is not exactly what I am playing.

I am trying to finish up two projects as fast as humanly possible. I am working on this series as well as trying to finish my hymn arrangements. I’ve reached the point where I am looking forward to other projects (other arrangements, Max/MSP pieces, longer original guitar pieces, non-guitar pieces, etc).

It’s not easy these days to find a lot of time to compose. We are currently remodeling a few rooms in our house, doing outside projects, and of course, a 5-week-old is not going to let you do much for very long. A typical composing hour in my life goes like this:

1. Compose (10 min)

2. Baby cries. Rock baby to sleep (10 min)

3. Compose (5 min)

4. Oldest son has a question. Answer question and mentally prepare for follow up questions (5 min)

5. Compose (10 min)

6. Two sons fight. Must break up fight. (5 min)

7. Compose (10 min)

8. Baby wakes up from very short nap. Change diaper. (5 min)

9. Repeat

Luckily I compose rather quickly because that is a typical free hour in my life.

Here is a video I watch pretty regularly:

I don’t even remember how I came across it.  I love the instrument, I can hardly sing and play my guitar at the same time much less play the other instrument (some kind of Frankenstein bass thing) with my feet. I love the song, I love his voice, and love the performance.

The video info doesn’t mention who this is, but with a little investigation (i.e. reading the comments below the video) I found out his name is Ryan Baer.

Here are couple more videos:

Enjoy!

Last year at this time I released a new Christmas CD of arrangements I made. It contains 19 tracks of mostly solo classical guitar, a few duets, a quartet, and one for the electric guitar.  Sheet music/tab is available at my website.  The CD is available at iTunes and Amazon.

This is a great piece by Luys de Narvaez. It’s a good companion piece to Guardame Las Vacas. I will often perform these two pieces together.

This is an older video that I found on my external hard drive. I believe I made this around 2008. Sorry about the poor sound quality.

One technical note: I do not tune my 3rd string to F Sharp.
